Established in 1943

In the past, whoever interested in civil service within the Department of Cooperatives were required to undergo training at the Department of Cooperatives, after they graduated Diploma. The Cooperative Faculty (at the first time) was established simultaneously with the founding of Kasetsart University on February 2, 1943.

The Cooperative Faculty is one of the four founding faculties of Kasetsart University, which includes the Faculty of Agriculture, the Cooperative Faculty, the Faculty of Forestry, and the Faculty of Fisheries. The undergraduate program is a 3-year curriculum designed to prepare students for civil service positions within the Department of Cooperatives. The first dean was Khun Phra Phijarn Phanit, the former director-general of the Department of Cooperatives, and Associate Professor Tanu Satirapai served as the faculty’s secretary. The Cooperative Faculty is located near Wat Phrachetuphon Vimolmangklararm Rajwaramahaviharn (Wat Pho), Tha Tien, Bangkok. It consists of four departments.

1952

In June 1952, Professor Panthum Dissanaimont proposed the curriculums of both 4-year and 5-year undergraduate degree programs, which were approved by the University Council. Additionally, there was a proposal to change the name of the faculty from Cooperative Faculty to Cooperative Economics Faculty to increase opportunities for students to work in many type of career in labour markets. However, Plaek Phibunsongkhram, who was the Prime Minister and the President of the University Council at that time, aimed to emphasize the importance of cooperatives. Therefore, the faculty was named Cooperative and Economics Faculty. This faculty comprised 8 departments.

In May 1956, the faculty relocated to Bang Khen, Bangkok, and changed its name to the Faculty of Cooperative Economics. Khun Phra Phijarn Phanit served as the dean from 1958 to 1963. Later, in 1963, Professor Panthum Dissanaimont was the dean until 1976. There were various updates and improvements made to the departments, including

1963

The Faculty of Cooperative Economics received a budget of 3 million baht to construct the first building at Bang Khen. The building consists of three stories and was officially named “Pitthayalongkorn” and opened officially on February 2,1964 with Field Marshal Thanom Kittikachorn, the Prime Minister, and the President of Kasetsart University Council.

1966

“The faculty aimed to expand its educational offerings to better align with the economic and social development of the country, providing students with increased opportunities to study various disciplines to meet the demands of the expanding job market. In response to the growing needs of the country, several study fields were introduced within the faculty. Additionally, in the year 1968, new administrative departments were established, leading to a change in the status of various departments within Kasetsart University. Consequently, these departments were reorganized into departments as per the announcement of the Prime Minister’s Office on January 8, 1969.”

The faculty name changed to be the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration and it comprised 6 departments:

Until September, 1989, the Department of Agricultural Economics changed its name to the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics

1992

The Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, which boasts a large number of students and faculty, became the second-largest faculty in Kasetsart University. With the rapid expansion of demand in the various disciplines taught, the faculty was divided into two faculties: the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Business Administration.
